Sharon Lee (Spurrier) Griner was born on Oct. 5, 1946, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Following her father's graduation from University of Michigan, her family settled permanently in the Dayton, Ohio, area.

Sharon grew up in Kettering, Ohio, and went on to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After receiving her teaching degree, she traveled to California for her first teaching contract. Her traveling companion was Peggy Griner. Along the way, they visited Peggy's brother, John Griner, who was teaching in Las Vegas, Nev. After the two-day visit, John Griner was irretrievably smitten by this very special girl.

One year later, they married, and John joined her in southern California where they both taught for the Fountain Valley School District. Their two daughters were born at South Laguna Beach hospital 18 months apart: Pamela Louise and Elizabeth Jean.

In the mid 1970s, Sharon and John moved their family to Fort Collins, Colo., where they continued their teaching careers in the Poudre School District.

Sharon completed her career by training student teachers at the University of Northern Colorado. In 1998, they retired and moved to Wickenburg where Sharon was very active. She served as a volunteer for the Spanish-to-English adult education program as well as for the Desert Caballeros Museum. She was also an officer for Las Senoras, the fundraising arm of the Museum.

Her hobbies included golf, Mahjong and dancing for exercise - at Jazzercise, Zumba and with her husband at any event that had music with a good beat. S

he lovingly supported her daughters and four grandchildren by attending and cheering at countless lacrosse and basketball games, swim meets, band concerts, award shows, dance performances and too many others to list.

Sharon passed away on June 21, 2026, in Phoenix. She is survived by her loving husband, John Hayes Griner; their daughters, Pamela (George) Griner Bours and Elizabeth Griner; her four grandchildren, Nicholas Hayes Ocker (18), Hugo Q Jonathan Bours (15), Lucia Genia Bours and Beatrix Lee Bours (11 ); her younger brother, Wayne Spurrier; many, many beloved family members across the country,and countless friends.

She brought joy, positivity and an electric smile to everyone in her life, and her loss will be felt immeasurably.
